day 2 at work
day 1 was a corporate induction for all trainees, mainly targeted at the undergrad interns. (they have to go thru written tests and a 2 hrs interview before being selected for internship at RR). um.....they are from places like oxford and imperial, and i was the second oldest in the batch! (the oldest is my fellow trainee)
the most interesting thing i saw today was a really ancient looking lift that doesnt stop. think of the normal lifts u see. remove the "external" lift doors, and u see the hollow space where the lift will move up and down in. then imagine a box moving up at a constant speed. that's the lift. so i see a hole in the wall, and a constantly-moving lift. u have to be really nimble, coz u can only get on and off the lift when the opening of the moving lift coincides with the opening in the wall.
seems like the less-than-nimble folks have no choice but to take the stairs......
anyway at supermarkets, the cashier is only responsible for scanning the barcodes and receiving payment. the customer has to bag the things himself while the cashier just sits there and wait for the next customer to come. the aunty/singaporean part of me thought: "wahhh.....i can bag my own things? let's use a few more bags so can re-use as rubbish bags when i get home."
turns out that the bags have holes punched in them!!! so they cant directly be used as wet waste bags. wil have to line the bottom of the bags with newspaper or something. but we havent got old newspaper as well.....so......
